Rose Murray Watson

DURHAM Mrs. Rose Murray Watson, 87, of Durham, died on Monday, March 5, 2018.Mrs. Watson was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Albert Murray, Sr. and Evelyn Hunter Murray. She retired from the American Tobacco Company after 35 years. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church where she was very involved. She was the President of the Faith Sunday School Class and loved to travel with the “Happy Wanderers.” She loved gardening, baking, reading and her cats. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. R. “Buck” Watson; brother, Albert F. Murray and her sister, Jean Crabtree.She is survived by the love of her life and best friend, Charlie Shelton; her son, David C. Watson, Jr. of Hertford; three daughters, Linda W. Garrett of Creedmoor, Sherry Watson of Durham and Donna Blalock of Rougemont; five grandchildren, Jessica W. Long (Brandon) of Burlington, Katherine Watson of Elizabeth City, Keenan Wynne of Durham, Sharyn Hall of Wake Forest and Tracey Taylor of Rougemont; great-grandchildren, Damion Henry, Tye Long, Harley Davis, Cole Teasley, Kendall Teasley, Christen Taylor and Faith Wynne.Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Gerald Goodwin and Rev. Ed Denton will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to the Durham Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 Robbins Road, Durham NC 27703.
