Mary Elizabeth Cates Rider

PITTSBORO- Ms. Mary Elizabeth Cates Rider, 62, went home to be with our Lord October 14, 2018 at UNC Hospital.Ms. Rider was born July 29, 1956 in Massachusetts to the late Walter and Betsy Cates, Sr. She was a self-employed housekeeper who loved serving others. Ms. Rider will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and beloved sister.Ms. Rider is survived by her daughter, Melanie Cooper of Pittsboro; son, Shad Light of Sanford; brothers, Freddy Cates of Chapel Hill and Ray Bratten of Virginia Beach; sisters, Patricia Cates of Oxford, Cathy Hayes of Oxford and Pamela Cates of Garner; grandchildren, Chelsea Cooper, Anthony Light, Kayla Cooper, Jordan Light, Isabella Williams, Waylon Williams; great-grandchildren, Aubree Wallace, Ava Biduk and Landon Light.Pallbearers will be Freddy Cates, Luke Maldonado, Dylan Beckwith, Kevin Faulkner, Ian Williams and Charlie Almond.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel.
