DURHAM- Lavoy Woodlief Adams passed away Monday, January 28, 2019.Lavoy was born August 9, 1926 to the late Aubrey and Sarah Powell Woodlief.On March 9, 1946, Lavoy married Durward Hudie Adams. They were happily married more than 58 years at the time of his death on February 13, 2005.Lavoy was employed by the American Tobacco Company for 41 years. After her retirement she faithfully volunteered at Duke Regional Hospital for 20 years. She was an active member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church where she was involved in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the adult choir. In later years, Lavoy coordinated the Senior Citizens Group meetings and outings. She was a member of Prime Timers at Bethesda Baptist Church.In addition to her parents and husband, Lavoy was predeceased by brothers Bervin, Flemming, Maynard, Woodrow Woodlief and Aubrey Woodlief, Jr.; sisters Selene Wright, Hortense Gibson, Nadine Bradley, Clina Wheeler, Ione King, and Joyce Tilley.Lavoy is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Adams Gooch; sisters-in-law Becie Woodlief, Ruth Sauls, Nancy Williams, Kathryn Adams and Linda Adams; brothers-in-law Darcus Adams and Mitchell Williams; special friend Cecil Keith, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Hudson Funeral Home. Funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Phillip Adams and Dr. Josep Solc. Pallbearers will be Alan Woodlief, Wayne Woodlief, Tom Woodlief, Marty Adams, Harvey Porter, Glenn Woodlief, and Gary Woodlief. Entombment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.Memorial contributions can be made to Mount Hermon Baptist Church at 2919 Olive Branch Rd., Durham, NC 27703, or to Sgt. Mark P. Adams Foundation at 110 Marcom Dr., Morrisville, NC 27568.Lavoy’s was a life well lived. Countless hours were spent in service to others.Proverbs 31:29-31“Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”
