Joseph Phillip Conte, Jr.

DURHAM- Mr. Joseph Phillip Conte, Jr., 90, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at The Forest at Duke.
Mr. Conte was born February 19, 1929 to the late Joseph and Venera Conte in Ballston Spa, NY. Mr. Conte proudly served his country in the United States Army after entering at 17 years old. He received his Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and Master’s degree in statistics from John Hopkins University. Mr. Conte worked for Public Health Service his entire career. He worked for the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA and Health Education Welfare in Washington, DC before he retired. He loved playing golf, gardening, international traveling, cooking and entertaining his family and friends. Mr. Conte will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Mr. Conte is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, June Mosby Conte; parents, Joseph and Venera Conte; brother, Bennie Conte.
Mr. Conte is survived by his daughter, Michele Waalkes (Michael); son, Mark Conte (Cynthia), brothers, Frank Conte and Richard Conte (Arlene); 8 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-granddaughter and numerous loving family members.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Watts Street Baptist Church. Officiating will be Senior Pastor Dorisanne Cooper.
