Winifred "Winnie" Norton

Winifred Davis “Winnie” Norton, 86, of Durham, passed away peacefully at her home on March 6, 2026. She was born on July 27, 1939, in Durham to the late Britt Augustus Davis and Selena Wheeler Davis.

Winnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Sherwood Norton, Sr.; her son, Billy Sherwood Norton, Jr.; her brothers, Bernice Davis and C.W. Davis; and her sisters, Helen Green and Frances Keltner.

She is survived by her sons, Barry W. Norton and wife Kim, and Brent L. Norton and wife Mitsi, of Durham; her daughter‑in‑law, Rhonda Norton; her grandchildren, Valerie Norton, Chloe Norton, Winston Norton and wife Alexis, Brice Norton and wife Morgan, Nick Norton, and Austin Norton; and her great‑grandchildren, Maverick Knott, Sophie Knott, Aubrey Norton, Barrett Norton, and Elizabeth Norton.

Winnie retired from Bank of America after 40 years of service and was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church on Cheek Road in Durham.

She treasured summers spent with her family at Emerald Isle, North Carolina, where she made some of her most cherished memories. She was a wonderful cook who loved gathering her family for Sunday lunches and holiday meals. She also deeply enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.

A special heartfelt appreciation to her caregiver, Jessica Hunt with Native American Angels for her devoted love and care.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Dr. Roger Wall will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 9:30 A.M.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Skip Green, Randy Green, Rodney Andrew, Dicky Lyon, Dennis Medlin, and Dwight Evans.
