Willie "Sonny" Holder

Willie Rufus “Sonny” Holder, 81, of Durham, passed away May 7, 2023, at Pruitt Health Center.

Mr. Holder was born April 11, 1942, in Durham, N.C., to the late Rufus William Holder and Mary Collins Holder.

Mr. Holder enjoyed tending to his cows at his home on Sherron Road. He most recently attended Olive Branch Baptist Church and previously attended Grove Park Chapel and West Durham Pentecostal. Sonny, as many knew him, was a member of the Bull City Street Rod Association and loved classic cars. He will be deeply missed.

Mr. Holder is survived by his son, Will R. Holder; stepson, Marshall L. Gurley, Jr. (Margie); and grandchildren, Will R. Holder, Jr., Zackery Gurley, Alicia G. Rogers, Nathania Beardsworth, and Amanda Wilson.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Steve Holder, Mike Young, Jason Shepherd, Hershel Turnage, Dwayne Turnage, and George Woods.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Tim Wheeler.

Flowers are acceptable.
