Viola Estelle Parham Hogan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Viola Estelle Parham Hogan of Durham, NC on July 6, 2023.

Born in Lunenburg County, Virginia, Estelle was the oldest of eight children. She moved to Durham at the age of 19 and resided until her passing. As a teenager, she began a long career at F.W. Woolworth in downtown Durham, working there over 39 years until the store closed. She was an amazing and dedicated employee and loved helping her customers. As a neighbor and friend, she was loyal and true, and a beloved 30 year member of Durham’s Immanuel Freewill Baptist Church. Formerly married to Charles W. Hogan, they had two daughters during their marriage. Estelle was very proud of her daughters, Catherine Hogan Falzone (Vince) and Nancy Hogan Pulliam (Jimmy). The later love of her life was Lawrence C. Gentry who lit up her life for more than 20 years.

Estelle is predeceased by her mother, Sarah Elizabeth Parham and her sisters, Alice Christine Parham Thompson, Sarah Catherine Parham Chambers and Paulette Parham McFalls. She is survived by her dear sisters Mary Rebecca Godwin, Virginia Dale Boone, and her brothers, RCSM Noland Davis Parham (Rebecca), and Phillip Mays Parham (Teresa). She loved her grandchildren Heather Fowler, Christopher Falzone (Kati), Michael Fowler (Brittany) and Jesse Fowler. Her great-grandchildren Cannon and Katherine Falzone, Robbie Fowler, Autumn and Averie Fowler and Skylar Fowler were dear to her heart. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held at Hudson Funeral Home in Durham NC on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM for family and friends with a celebration of life service immediately following at 3:00 PM. Pastor Jim Turnbough will officiate.
