Thomas Walen Ward

Thomas (Tommy) Walen Ward, 82, of Stem, NC was called home by his Lord and Savior on October 29,2023.  Born July 24, 1941 in Columbus, NC, the eldest son of the late Charlie Ward and Victoria Todd Ward.

Tommy is a member of Concord Baptist Church in Creedmoor, NC, where he enjoyed fellowship and helping with activities such as the annual stew sale and other functions. He has been an NC Licensed Plumber for over 50 years and the owner of TW Ward Plumbing until his retirement, which he never fully retired as he enjoyed being a service to others.

Tommy was a member of the 410 Masonic Lodge in Durham, NC then became a Charter member of 750 Masonic Lodge in Durham, NC, from there he was a member of Sudan Shrine Temple in New Bern, NC after which he became a Charter member of Amran Shrine Temple in Raleigh, NC.  He was also a Charter Member of Triangle Shrine Club in Durham, NC for over 50 years.  He was active in the Masonic and Shrine organizations. He participated in both Amran clown division and Hillbilly group for many years. He also participated and held membership in both the Royal Jesters Court #186 of Raleigh, NC and Order of the Q (Quetzalcoatl) #3 Raleigh, NC where he had many brothers and friends.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife Rachel Dickerson Ward of 63 years of the home; Daughter Angela R Ward (Ricky Carver);  Grand-daughters Channing N Duke and Victoria R Duke (JT Matthews) and Great Grand-daughter Dakota N Duke. All of whom he has demonstrated a source of great strength, example, dedication, love and faith.

Surviving siblings; Esther W Cash (Roy), Will Ward (Sherry), Charles Ward (Phyllis), Patricia W Averette, Phyllis W Williams, Betsy W Strautnieks and Susan W Shepherd; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by two brother’s; Donald Ray, Johnny Joe and a sister Beatrice.

Tommy never knew a stranger and always without fail was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He enjoyed growing his plants and gardening where he had a green thumb on anything he touched.  We all were blessed to have him in our lives as long as the Lord allowed.

A celebration of life will be held at Concord Baptist Church in Creedmoor on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Shaw of Concord Baptist Church.
