Thomas "TW" Baker

Mr. Thomas Wesley “TW” Baker, 84, of Durham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, December 31, 2023.

Mr. Baker was born December 18, 1939, in Durham County, NC to the late Thomas Isiah Baker and Beulah Belle Perry Baker.

In addition to his parents, TW was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Baker and a sister, Barbara Beckwith Whittimore.

TW was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. He sang in the church choir for many years. He served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965 and was stationed in Germany. After completing his service , he returned home and went to work for Duke Power Company for over 28 years. After retiring he began walking at Northgate Mall and made many friends there. He enjoyed walking there for over 15 years.

TW was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa and loved being called “PaPa”.

The family wishes to thank Preacher Rick Finley and Renae and the church family for their love and support and most of all the prayers, especially for the last two years. They also want to thank the staff, nurses, and CNAs at the nursing facility for the care they gave to him.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Gail Williams Baker; daughters, Angie B. Combs (Brent) of Durham, and Christie B. Bruni (Nate) of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Laura Radford (Michael) and Grayson Daniel (Devon Sanchez); great grandchildren, Sydney Radford, and Wesley Radford and expecting soon DJ Sanchez; several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday January 5, 2024, at Fellowship Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Flowers are acceptable, or donations can be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund. Officiating will be Dr. Rick Finley.

Interment will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Lewis, Wendell McKinney, John Wilson, and Sonny Hurley.
