Thomas Edward "Ed" Freeman, Jr.

Mr. Thomas Edward “Ed” Freeman, Jr, 86, of Durham, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Mr. Freeman was born to the late Thomas Edward Freeman, Sr. and Ruth Mathis Freeman on September 22, 1939. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter, Callie Freeman; brother, Mike Freeman; sister, Sandra Dixon.

Mr. Freeman was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church and proudly served in the United States Navy for 4 years, where he worked as an auto mechanic and built model airplanes. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went on to work for Verizon as a mechanic, retiring after 45 years of service.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Judy Freeman; daughter, Bonnie Wilkins; granddaughters, Angela and Carla Dennis; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Nathan, and Falynn Dennis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fletchers Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Scaiscai officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Dennis, Bennie Evans, Sterling Osteen, Jayden Coleman, Thomas Penny, and Mack Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Morris, Al Matthews, and James Penny.

At the family’s request, all memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
