Sybil Ann Beck, 83, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025.
Ms. Beck was retired from the North Carolina Department of Health as a Clerk after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed helping the public and working with her coworkers.
She grew up attending Angier Avenue Baptist Church. In recent years, Sybil had been attending Brier Creek Meadows with many of her friends.
Ms. Beck was also a proud and longtime member of the Sorority Beta Sigma Phi which she enjoyed many outings with.
Sybil loved crafts from knitting to crocheting. She enjoyed making things for friends and family. Sybil especially liked making things for children and interacting with them. And often when you asked her how to make something, a wreath, pillow, or any crafts she had an answer. Many times, she would say, I've got the material, I'll make it for you.
Her favorite color was pink. When shopping, she always bought pink coordinating earrings, shoes, clothing and anything that was pink. She had to stop and look at and see if she really needed it. Ha, and most of time she decided she did. She even had a food mixer on a stand that was pink.
Sybil had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off her back. A friend from school said Sybil drew a crowd wherever she was. People loved her "love for life" spirit and you had to smile when you were in her presence.
Sybil also enjoyed going out to eat with her friends and family and she will be missed by many who loved her. She will be remembered as a loving and sweet sister, aunt and dear friend to many.
Ms. Beck is survived by her brother, Jimmy Beck; sister, Faye Washington; nephew, Jim Beck, Jr. (Cissy); great nieces, Lexi Bryan (Dylan), Riley Beck and Bailey Beck. Sybil was preceded in death by Sister-in-law, Pat Duke Beck and Brother-in-law, Don Washington.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Reverend James Shelley will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, starting at 1:00 P.M.
Those we love don't go away They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and always dear.
