Shirley Glenn Parrish, a beloved wife, and cherished member the community, passed away on February 14, 2024. She was born on November 24, 1944, in Durham, a city that held a special place in her heart throughout her life.
Shirley was a woman of remarkable character and had a genuine love for her family and friends. She was devoted to her husband John W. Parrish, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with love and cherished memories. Their enduring partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them.
As a loving mother to her daughter Cheryl Anne Parrish, Shirley's nurturing spirit knew no bounds. She found immense joy in raising her child and took great pride in witnessing Cheryl Anne's growth and accomplishments.
Professionally, Shirley dedicated over 30 years of her life to GTE (General Telephone), where she excelled in her role with unwavering commitment and dedication. Her strong work ethic and passion for her job earned her the respect and admiration of both colleagues and superiors alike.
In her leisure time, Shirley delighted in the simple pleasures of life. Dancing held a special place in her heart, as it allowed her to express herself freely and brought immense happiness into her life. Whether gliding gracefully across the dance floor or enjoying the thrill of water skiing on the lake, she embraced every opportunity to revel in the joy that these activities brought her.
Beyond her passions, Shirley found solace within the pages of novels and treasured the moments when she could immerse herself in different worlds through storytelling.
Shirley Glenn Parrish will be forever remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and indomitable spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and devotion that will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her beloved husband John W. Parrish of 59 years, her dear brother Paul Glenn, as well as other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Marshall and Rosa Carrington Glenn and daughter Cheryl Anne Parrish.
Services to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on February 19, 2024. A Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hudson Funeral Home, located at 211 S Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703. This will be followed by a Funeral Service at the Hudson Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Reverend Tim Wheeler, pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Road, Durham, NC.
Flowers are acceptable.
