Shirley Baker Pennell

Shirley Baker Pennell, 78, of 3014 Burton Road, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Pennell was a native of Durham, where she lived all of her life. Surviving are two daughters, Wanda D. Ellis of Durham and Dawn P. Bettany of Hurdle Mills; a brother, Donald Baker of Durham; five grandchildren, Brandy Heulitt of Hillsborough, Travis Powers of Hurdle Mills, Shannon Ellis of Zebulon, James New of Durham and Ryan Bettany of Hurdle Mills; three great-grandchildren; and two very dear friends, Joyce Pennell and Betty Walker. Mrs. Pennell was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Pennell. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hudson Funeral Home.
