Sherrill Thomas Hester Sr 75 of Oxford NC passed away on June 25, 2026, at home with his family by his side. He was born in Durham, NC on December 30, 1950, to John (Coy) and Beatrice Hester. He is a graduate of Southern High School where he played the beloved game of football. Sherrill dedicated his life to working as a maintenance superintendent and a certified HVAC Technician. Over the years he earned numerous awards and commendations. He retired in 2017. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he accepted The Lord as his Saviour and followed The Lord in baptism in January of 2000.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda Hilliard Hester and daughter Ginger Slocum (Charles).
He is survived by his son, Sherrill Thomas Hester II (Tara) of Willow Spring, NC; daughter, Elizabeth Hart (Roland) of Durham; Bonus son, William Davis III (Debbie) of McLeansville, NC; Bonus daughter, Wanda Johnson (Robert) of Oxford, NC; Bonus daughter, Paula Martin of Jacksonville, NC.
Beloved grandchildren: Brandon Coffey, Adam Martin, Bethany Kapuscinski (Dustin), Candice Long, Allison Shuman (Isaac), William Davis IV, Taylor Hester, Tyler Hester, Parker Berg, Spencer Griffin, Savanna Slocum, Makailla Slocum, Cheyanne Griffin and Amber Griffin
Great Grandsons, his great joy; Ayden Martin, Davis Kapuscinski, Jameson Long, Easton Davis and Sawyer Hester
Brothers; Derwood Hester (Brenda) of New Port, NC and Ronnie Hester of Hillsborough, NC
Sisters-In-Law; Henrietta Hilliard and Helen DiPietro of Oxford, FL
And many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
We are so thankful for the compassionate care of the Heartland Hospice family: Heather, Mary, Angela, Justine, Kimberly, Alejandra and Troy.
Our family is grateful to Jessie Martin for her tender care of our father. Her kindness and dedication brought comfort to both him and our family.
Sherrill was known for his love for the Duke Blue Devils and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some of his favorite memories were made camping at Fall’s Lake and sharing his love of camping and fishing with his beloved friends and family.
Sherrill developed his love for cruising on in 1986 on his honeymoon. He and his bride became cruise partners for life and immensely enjoyed yearly cruises together.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 am at Hudson Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the Chapel.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
