Sarah Davis Bonner

Sarah Davis Bonner “Bebe” & “Miss Sarah” , age 84 of Durham and Stem, passed away in her home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

She was born on November 15, 1939 to the late Everett Davis and Sudie Hopkins Davis.  She is preceded in death by her son, Kelly Owen Bonner and her husband, George Irving Bonner III.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Gregory Bonner (wife - Dara) and Kerry Denise Bonner-Bryant (husband - George); grandchildren Corwin Beau Bryant, Davis Kade Bryant, Sarah Haegan Bryant, Cameron Dane Bonner, and Gage Owen Bonner. She is also survived by her Pub Children: Brenda Green, Megan Mosley, Eddie Wright, Cory Parker, Rene Estevez, Luis Romero Ramos, Adam & Caroline Hardy, Chris Del Rosario, Dio Garcia, Antonio Martinez, Melbyn & Jenny Fernandez, Brett Thomas, Orville West , Andrea Gates and many more from previous years of working at the Pub.

Sarah graduated from Stem High School and Louisburg College. She was a hardworking mom where she held multiple jobs to provide for her family.  The Hospitality Industry was her true “Love”, thus she opened the West 94^th St Pub, (The PUB)  in 1994.  She wanted to provide a “Cheers” like atmosphere where everyone could enjoy themselves while meeting new friends.  The Pub was her pride and joy. At any given time, anyone could walk in and find her in the back booth, (B4) or back tall table (W3) running her business. She was very adamant about the Pub being open 365 days of the year as she wanted to provide a place for the community to come at any time. The Pub family know her as “Miss Sarah”, the lady you could always confide in and trust she was going to tell you the truth, even when you didn’t want to hear it.  If any of her patrons did wrong, she would let them know by calling them to the back table to discuss the situation.  There were many times she would have to put her loyal regulars in “time out” for a period of time, so they could gather themselves before returning.  She truly cared for so many people and impacted so many by providing jobs, giving back to the community, as well as playing match maker for couples to meet, marry and later have children. 

Her grandchildren knew her as “Bebe” and they truly admired her.  Bebe would light up when the grandchildren would ask her to come watch them play their favorite sports; basketball, baseball and football, perform in the high school show choir, dance at special events and just spend time with them. She always wanted to make sure they were taken care of by providing her love, support and spoiling them with whatever they wanted. She was our “Rock”, and now she is the “Wind beneath our Wings”!

There will be a private family graveside ceremony on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Bullock Cemetery in Stem, NC. A “Celebration of Life” for Pub patrons, family, friends and the general public will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 12n- 5pm at West 94^th St Pub in Durham, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of her son, Kelly Owen Bonner.
