Ruth Walker Matthews

DURHAM – Mrs. Ruth Walker Matthews 73, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Duke University Hospital.

Mrs. Matthews was born June 23, 1947 to Richard E. Walker and Irene Peed Walker in Creedmoor, NC. She was employed by Durham Technical Community College for 34 years as Director of payroll. Ruth enjoyed cooking and watching the Rachel Ray Cooking Show. She also enjoyed interior design and was an avid Duke fan. Ruth will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Bobby Matthews of Durham; her daughter Donna McKee Rutledge of Timberlake, NC; brother, Terry Wagner and wife Gina of Bahama, NC; grandchildren Raven Brianna Rutledge and Lukas Drew Rutledge; great grandson, Chase Albert Schmidt; nieces, Stephanie Wagner King and Tara Wagner. She is also survived by her beloved dog “Buddy”.

A memorial service will be held Thursday June 17^th at 4 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
