Rickie Lee Dunn

Rickie Dunn, February 7, 1957 – March 25, 2023, Timberlake NC.

Born in Durham NC, he was the beloved son of Ella Mae Harmon. He married his lifelong best friend Joann, in August 1979 and enjoyed a full life thereafter and enjoyed raising their two children, Patrick and Jennifer.  Rickie spent many years helping on the race teams for Jason Gullie and Jay Fogleman at Orange County Speedway, South Boston Speedway and Ace Speedway. Over the years he worked for many organizations including Liggett Meyers Tobacco, Proctor Grading, PBM, Charah, Mid-Atlantic Infrastructure, and Fogleman's Landfill to name a few. When Patrick was younger, he and Rickie spent time together restoring a 1966 Mustang followed by many years of camping and boating at the lake with family and friends. 

He had recently retired back in 2022 and had spent time doing his yearly garden, helping out at the Holder farm, camping between the beach, lake, and mountains as well as enjoying his grandchildren Addison, Gavin, Nathan, and Seth.  He recently bought a motorcycle for he and Joann to enjoy on their trips often with Jennifer and his son-in-law Daniel, as well as Gavin and Justin not far behind. Rickie was always a leader and especially out on the roads for everyone.  In the many summers spent at the lake, Rickie always made sure everyone had the best time out on the water. Even if you thought you were good at whatever water sport, Rickie at the helm would absolutely prove you wrong. Rickie was a man of many talents that included welding, gardening, being a mechanic, driving for road trips, reconstructing gadgets, salvaging anything he thought he could, shucking corn, picking beans, snappin’ peas, and managing what everyone else was doing, or just observing, which may not have been done so quietly.

To the man who was always just a phone call away and a stranger to no one, you will be forever loved and missed by so many close friends and family members.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Don Westbrook, Rev. Larry Smith, and Rev. Jonathan Taylor. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
