Richard Dan Carpenter, 77, of Chapel Hill passed away on July 8, 2026, at Duke University Hospital. Mr. Carpenter was born November 10, 1948, in Mullins, SC to the late Robert Lee and Ann Lee Driggers Carpenter.

In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by a brother, Charles E. Carpenter and sister and brother-in-law Marie Carpenter Hamilton (Ray).

He is survived by a brother, Mark Carpenter (Sonia) of Emerald Isle, NC; sisters, Peggy Carpenter Rigsbee of Chapel Hill and Lorie Carpenter Atkins (Allan) of Rougemont, NC; nephew, David Hamilton (Sherry) of Henderson, NC; and several other nieces and nephews.

Richard had a willingness to help others, enjoyed saltwater fishing, loved hanging out with family and friends, serving at his Church and was a great role model to many.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 10, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Pastor Clifford Burton.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Burton, Chad Riley, Chris Walker, Jeremy Herndon, Marcus Gamez, and Michael Henderson. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe White.

Donations in Richard’s memory can be made to Revolve Church, 2031 W. Club Blvd. Durham NC 27705.
