Randall "Randy" Stone

September 28, 1950 — December 2, 2022

Randall Frank Stone of Durham, NC went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2022, surrounded by his wife and his children. Randy was born September 28, 1950, to Helen Lacy Stone and Claiborne Carr Stone. He was a loving, dedicated father to his children and devoted soulmate to his wife of 30 years, Teresa A. Stone. He was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served as a Lead Usher until 2020.

Randy loved cars. He grew up building model cars with his brothers, riding his bike to his dad’s service station, studying auto mechanics at Durham High, and he built his first car by the age of 14. Randy served as a crossing guard at Holton Jr. High which motivated him to join the Army Reserves at 18. He took his first plane ride to California for basic training and would spend his reserve years training service men and women to drive heavy equipment. Randy would build and restore many more cars over his lifetime.

His first full time job was at Wallace Electric. In 1977 Randy opened his own garage, Randy’s Auto Electric, at 427 Salem St in Durham. The shop later moved to a larger, more prominent location at 2301 S. Miami Blvd in 1995. With integrity, craftsmanship, and compassion, he ran his business and cared for the vehicles of so many in Durham for the next 42 years. In the later years of his life, his transformation in Christ was evident in his desire to share his walk with the Lord with people he encountered through his business and his life.

In 1984 he helped found the Carolina Cruisers Car Club, who supported the Make a Wish Foundation and the Scleroderma foundation with their annual car shows at Durham County Stadium. Randy was also a loyal member of The Bethesda Ruritan Club, volunteering for many events and serving as Chair of the Business and Professional Committee. Randy’s favorite place was Kerr Lake, where he boated, skied, and fished with family and friends from his teens to his old age.

Randy leaves behind his cherished wife, Teresa; three children, Jennifer Stone Gwennap (Todd) of Warrenton, VA, Patrick Stone (Karen) of Oakboro, NC, and Chase Parham (Norma) of Durham, NC; seven beloved grandchildren, Jack, Audrey, Raney, Randall, Wyatt, Caleb, and Elizabeth; three siblings, Bill Stone, Kenny Stone (Becky), and Carolyn Stone Briggs.

A celebration of life will be held at Bethesda Baptist Church on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Jonathan Barbee.

The family is happy to receive visitors at home in the coming weeks. Flowers or donations to Bethesda Baptist Church in memory of Randy Stone are welcome.
