Ofelia Gallegos Sanchez

January 5, 1953 — February 19, 2023

Ofelia Gallegos Sanchez, 70, passed away at her home on the morning of February 19, 2023. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family.

Ofelia was born in San Pablo, a small town in Zacatecas, Mexico, on January 5th in 1953 to the late Juan Gallegos and Gregoria Montañez. She had 6 sisters and 6 brothers.

Ofelia married Jose R. Sanchez in San Pablo. Their life’s journey landed them in Durham, NC. They were married for 51 years. Ofelia and Jose had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls—Alma, Elsa, Miguel, Esperanza, Omar, Cesar, Jaqueline and Rodolfo (Junior). They have 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Ofelia was a fiercely dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a loving sister to her siblings. She was cheerful and peaceful. She enjoyed watching soccer matches with her family. Her happiest times were spent seeing her family gather—this is what truly fed her soul.

All eight of her children gathered at her home on the Sunday of her passing. She would be fulfilled to know that they are holding one another up during this difficult time. They are supporting her husband who survives her as well. Her teachings and influence have manifested in their actions. The hole left by Ofelia’s absence will be impossible to fill. Her impact on the lives of her family is eternal.
