Nonie Coline Rose, 102, of Hillsborough, North Carolina peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, October 17, 2025. She was born August 24, 1923, in Durham, North Carolina to the late William and Nannie Watson.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Dewey Rose; 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
Mrs. Rose retired from Ligget and Myers after 42 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
Nonie just enjoyed life; after growing up during the Great Depression and being 1 of 14 children she realized how to enjoy and appreciate life. She enjoyed fishing, especially from the pier looking out into the ocean. Nonie loved to be outdoors, whether tending to her garden or using her keen senses to observe the birds and squirrels.
Mrs. Rose also found comfort in reading a good book. She found the most enjoyment in taking care of her family and spending time with them. Nonie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
Nonie is survived by her son, Jerry Rose (Donna); daughter, Linda Rose Long; brothers, Clifton Watson and Robert Watson; sister, Catherine Bowling; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; special friend, Dee Wilkins and numerous other loving family members and friends.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 2107 Liberty St., Durham, NC 27703. Dr. Gerald Goodwin will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the graveside from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.
