Nathaniel George "Nat" Thompson

Durham

Nathaniel George “Nat” Thompson, 83, of Durham, passed away on Monday September 1, 2025, at Duke Hock Family Pavilion. He was born on July 26, 1942, in Caswell County to the late John Leith Thompson, Sr. and Virginia Myers Thompson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his brothers, James Thompson and John Thompson, Jr. and sisters, Beth T. Poole and Carolyn T. Carroll.

Mr. Thompson retired from Triangle Electric Motors as a Machinist after 30 years of quality service. He then went to work for Electrical Equipment Company for 5 years until his final retirement.

Nat, as he was lovingly known, was a longtime member of Gorman Baptist Church and a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. He was also a faithful Deacon at Edgewood Baptist Church in his younger years.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed hunting, especially with his nephew Jimmy. Nat was also a Bee Keeper for many years. He enjoyed treasure hunting and using his metal detector at the beach. Most of all he loved being around his family.

Nat will be remembered as an easy-going man with great patience and the willingness to help everyone. This beloved husband, father, sibling, uncle and friend will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruby S. Thompson; daughter, Wendy Thornton and husband Rob of Wake Forest, NC; brothers, Sidney Thompson and wife Angela of Somora, NC and Randall Thompson and wife Melba of Roxboro, NC; sister, Linda Briggs and husband Paul of Bear Creek, NC and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Gorman Baptist Church, 3315 E. Geer St., Durham, NC 27704. Reverend Craig Phelps will officiate. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC.

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:30 P.M.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Nat’s name to Gorman Baptist Church, 3315 E. Geer St., Durham, NC 27704 or Duke Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, #101, Durham, NC 27704.
