Maybelle Riley Yates

Mrs. Maybelle Riley Yates, 92, of Durham, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026. She was born to the late Hubert and Eatha Glenn Riley on May 8, 1934.

Maybelle worked at the American Tobacco Company for 34 years, retiring as a packing operator. She travelled the USA, visiting almost all 50 states in her motor home and enjoyed the beach, NASCAR, gardening, and being outside.

Maybelle is survived by her grandsons Michael Riggs (Kim) and Nick Riggs (Jodie); great-grandchildren Tori Riggs and Jordyn Allen; great-great-granddaughter Iris Allen; and one sister, Wanda Guins.

Maybelle is preceded in death by son, Michael Dwayne Riggs; brothers, Bobby, James, Tom, and H.L. Riley; and two sisters, Dot and Margie.

A lady of strong Christian faith, she will be greatly missed by her entire family and extended church family at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the many prayers, acts of kindness, and support shown during this difficult time.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Reverend Billy Keith will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Michael Riggs, Nick Riggs, DJ Pulliman, Carson Gregory, Mason Gregory, JT Riley, and Cody Johnson.
