Martha Maynard Mitchell

Martha Mitchell, 82, of Durham, North Carolina went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She was born in Wake County, NC on August 15, 1943, to the late Walter and Eva Maynard.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her Loving Husband of 45 years, Joe Mitchell, Sr.; daughter, Angela Garrett; brothers, Earl Maynard and Alton Maynard and sister, Katie Sue Seagroves.

Mrs. Mitchell was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 50 years. For many years she sang in the choir and always loved her church family. She was a dedicated homemaker not only for her family but for the neighborhood children, as they were always welcome to come over.

Martha enjoyed doing word find puzzles, walking and reading her Bible. For many years she looked forward to traveling with Joe on long cross-country bus rides exploring the United States. She was an avid gardener, who enjoyed her flowers and watching the birds. In the last few years, she still enjoyed the birds from her windows.

Mrs. Mitchell was a very happy, strong willed and caring woman. Her low-key demeanor always made everyone comfortable. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Martha will be deeply missed by her family, church family and the many lives she touched over the years.

She is survived by her sons, Joe Mitchell (Michelle) and Tommy Mitchell (Pamela); brother, Eugene Maynard (Anna); sister, Kitty Maynard Pope (Charles); grandchildren, April Goss (Chris), Crystal Emmons (Bryant), Brandon Garrett (Olivia), Thomas Mitchell (Shannon), Justin Mitchell (Nikki), Brandi Rowe (Josh), Joey Mitchell (Maddy), Zack Mitchell, Bryson Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell, Macy Mitchell and Maddie Mitchell; great grandchildren, Bryce Emmons, Hailey Emmons, Cameron Goss, Ryan Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, Conner Mitchell, Carlie Mitchell, Cayson Rowe and Weston Mitchell and other loving family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Randy Youmans and Pastor Loren Kurtz from Liberty Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC.

Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brandon Garrett, Thomas Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Joey Mitchell, Zack Mitchell and Bryson Mitchell.

Flowers are acceptable.
