Margie Jackson Herndon, 93, of Durham, North Carolina passed away at Pruitt Health on September 14, 2025. Mrs. Herndon was born July 8, 1932, in Durham to Robert Lee and Ida Overaker Jackson.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Herndon is predeceased by her husband William Larry Herndon; son Tony Herndon; brother, Bobby Jackson and sister Charlotte Hunnings.
Margie was a proud graduate of Lowes Grove High School and spent over 40 years with Sears in Durham, where she built lasting friendships and a career she loved. Some of her happiest days were spent at Kerr Lake, boating and skiing with family, making memories that will be treasured forever. She had a passion for square dancing, a sweet tooth for oatmeal cookies, and never turned down a glass of pink lemonade. Purple was her favorite color — a perfect reflection of her bright, hopeful spirit. Margie always believed something wonderful was about to happen, and she lived her life with that joyful outlook every single day.
Mrs. Herndon is survived by her sons, Wayne Herndon (Pam), Tim Herndon of Durham, and Tracy Herndon (Janet) of Henderson, NC; sister Ruby Verrichia of Wilmington, NC; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Special thanks to Rainey for the loving care she gave to her great-grandmother, and to Josh for traveling from Kansas to be with the family during this difficult time.
