Louise Oliver Matthews, 94, of Durham, NC passed from this earth to the next on March 28, 2026. She was born in Person County, NC on June 29, 1931, to the late Joseph Daniel Oliver and Addie Pulliam Oliver.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bobby Wayne Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews was a dedicated employee of CCB serving as an Installment Loan Supervisor for 31 years. Louise enjoyed beautifying her yard, planting bushes and flowers that would attract hummingbirds. To the consternation of her family, she insisted on mowing her yard until well into her 80’s.
By the time grandchildren came along, Louise was retired. She enjoyed her role as grandmother helping raise four grandchildren; John Naillon, Jr. (and his beloved Kelsey DeCoster), Vance Barber, Madyson Barber and MacKenzi Barber. Louise’s greatest legacy is her grandchildren who embody the lessons she taught them.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Price (Rodney) and Renee Barber (Todd); and her two sisters, Bernice Wilson and Joyce Murray.
The family will receive friends on Monday April 6th at Hudson Funeral Home from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 11am in Hudson Funeral Chapel. Interment immediately following the service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens on Cheek Road. Officiating will be Chaplain Linda Snow.
