Lawrence Edward Howell

Lawrence E. Howell, 86, of Creedmoor, North Carolina went home to be with his Lord and Savior at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He was born in Danville, VA on September 28, 1938, to the late John and Avis Howell.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth W. Howell, Sr.

Lawrence proudly served his country in the United States Army. In his younger years he was a Welterweight boxer. He was a hardworking man. Mr. Howell loved painting pictures by number. He enjoyed working in the yard.

Mr. Howell was a longtime member of First Pentecostal Church of Durham. He enjoyed his church family and always had his favorite place to sit. Lawrence loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Mr. Howell is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sylvia A. Howell; son, Buddy Howell (Pam); daughters, Lisa Howell and Susan Merritt (Keith); grandchildren, Patrick Merritt (Taylor), Katherine Wright and Devon Howell (Meleah); great granddaughter, Sutton Merritt and other loving family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at First Pentecostal Church of Durham, 2008 Carver St., Durham, NC 27705. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Rev. Nathaniel Urshan and Bishop Johnny Godair will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:00 P.M.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Louis Wilmoth, Jeffrey Wilmoth, Matthew Wilmoth, Brandon Keith, Tim Fluet, and Tim Darnell

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Lawrence to First Pentecostal Church Building Fund.
