June Bailey Vaughn

June Bailey Vaughn, 94, of Durham, NC, passed away March 15, 2023, at Hock Family Pavilion.

Mrs. Vaughn was born on July 21, 1928, in Durham, N.C. to the late Jesse Bailey and Ophelia Bennett Bailey. Mrs. Vaughn loved being a Homemaker and a mother and in later years worked as a Long Distant Operator with Southern Bell and later at the American Tobacco Company prior to retirement. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as a pastime. She was always very active in her church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Mission Union (WMU) and other committees. She was currently a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham, NC. She was also a previous member of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaughn is preceded in death by her husband of over 59 years, Elbert Harding Vaughn; great grandson, Jeremy Adam Daniels; and a sister, Betty Ann Carden.

She is survived by her sons, Hardy Vaughn (Betty) of Orlando, FL, Steve Vaughn (Ann) of Rougemont, NC; daughters, Rebecca Daniels (Larry), Sheree Wheeler (Tim), Teresa Vaughn, of Durham, NC and Renee Wright (Todd) of Wake Forest, NC; also 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held March 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Reverend Tim Wheeler.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Adam Daniels, Jesse Daniels, Aaron Wheeler, Caleb Wheeler, Silas Wheeler, Walker Wright, and Mark McCowan.
