Joseph Darold “Joe” Sams, Sr.

DURHAM Mr. Joseph Darold Sams, Sr., of Durham, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.Mr. Sams was born in Greenville, SC, the son of the late Carlos Sams and Beatrice Rogers Sams. He proudly served in the U. S. Army until retiring. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Sams; sisters, Zoria (Sis) Williams, and Trudy Bundick.He is survived by his wife, Darlene Sams; son, Joseph Darold Sams, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Creedmoor; daughter, Stacey Lynn Bezek of Durham; sisters, Faye Way of Hillsborough, Hershal House; grandchildren, Dustin West, Ashley West, Charis Sams and great-grandchildren, Jessie and Joseph West.Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Clay Stevens will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and after the service at the Bethesda Ruritan Club. Flowers are acceptable.
