John Thurman Denton

DURHAM Mr. John Thurman Denton, 89, of Durham, died on Saturday, January 28, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Denton was born in Nash County, the son of the late Charlie Mack Denton and Lurla Morgan Denton. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired after 35 years from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Denton. He loved his family and spending time outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jeans Denton; two sons, Charles Denton and wife, Barbara, Michael Wayne Denton and wife, Angie all of Durham; two daughters, Charlene D. Fowler and husband, Thomas and Pamela Denton all of Durham; brother, Royal Max Denton of Durham; two sisters, Barbara Beckwith of Apex and Mabel Jean Brantley of Burlington; 4 grandchildren, Dylan Denton, Dustin Denton, Dougie Medlin and Tommy Fowler, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Medlin.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church on Chandler Road. Rev. Kenneth Forehand will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chris Holder, George Martin, Crow Rose, Kevin Gregory Medlin, Joe Riley and Jamie McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Walker and Roy Dickerson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
