John Colton, Jr.

Mr. John Colton, Jr., 88, passed away May 23, 2024, at Alamance Regional Hospital. 

Mr. Colton was born to the late John Colton, Sr. and Kathryn Ziss Colton in Irvington, New Jersey.

John graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957 from Seton Hall University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. He became a Social Worker for the State of New Jersey. He was an active member of his community, serving in the Jaycees, Bethesda Ruritan Club for many years and the  Durham Center for Senior Life. He was an avid Duke sports fan. John was of the Catholic faith. He attended Page Road Baptist Church as well.

In addition to his parents, John was  preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Helen Veasey “Polly” Colton. 

A niece Karen Brooks and husband C.W. survive him and their sons and devoted caretaker Amy Workman.

A visitation will be held Tuesday May 28, 2024, from 6 pm. to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Reverend Hugh O’Shields.
