Joan Marie Ahrens

Joan Marie Ahrens, 92, of Raleigh, North Carolina peacefully passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at The Cadence in Wake Forest.  She was born November 24, 1930, to the late Joseph and Estelle Lister.

Mrs. Ahrens was an adventurous woman who had her pilots’ license and used it to enjoy flying Piper Cubs over the beautiful state of New York. She was very involved in theatre at West Pointe where she created backdrops for the shows.  Joan always enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting many wonderful places.  She will be remembered as a strong willed and fearless woman who was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Karl Ahrens; son, Carl Ahrens; brother, Joseph Lister and grandson, Erich Ahrens.

Mrs. Ahrens is survived by her son, Mark Ahrens; daughter, Shannon Thomas (Tony); granddaughter, Jennifer West (Frank); great grandchildren, Jackson, Adam, McKenzie, Avery, Bella, Harley, Keagan and River and other loving family members and friends.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina where she will be interred with her loving husband.
