Janet Irene Weinberg passed peacefully away at her home in Efland, North Carolina on Monday, May 4th, 2026, with her husband of thirty-seven years, Gerhard Weinberg, at her side.
Born Janet Irene Kabler to Melvin and Lois (Long) Kabler in Blackwell, Oklahoma on April 7, 1941.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her sons, David White and Greg White; siblings, Billy Joe Kabler and Connie Kabler Gaudette.
She is survived by her husband Gerhard Weinberg; daughter Kathleen Van Stavern (Louise McBride) of Texas; son, Greg Rohlik and wife Maria; stepson, David Weinberg of Illinois; brother, Richard Kabler; daughter-in-law, Beverly White; grandchildren, Taylor Johnson (Brett), Elliott Johnson, Bernard Rohlik (Alexandria), Lory Rohlik (Andrew), and Gregory Rohlik; nephews, Erick Kabler, Brian Kabler (LeAnn), DJ (Maria); niece, Diane Ramos (Richard); grand nieces and nephews, Zach, Garrison, Ethan, Henry, Shayla (Qwon), Ava, Hannah, Gregory; great grandnieces, Maliha and Spencer.
Janet grew up among the Kabler and Long families in Oklahoma and Missouri, often spending summers in Cassville, Missouri. Melvin was a career airman in the Air Force and the family lived in bases in the United States, France, and Germany.
Janet was an entrepreneur. After a successful career designing children’s learning spaces and mobile homes, she founded KDG Enterprises, Inc., a textile company that employed over forty people in Efland, NC.
She built her own home. A lifelong explorer, she returned from fossil hunting in Wyoming with the plans to the bed and breakfast where they had stayed and built it as her home in Efland. Janet supervised the construction, living on the grounds and overseeing every detail until it was completed.
Janet had a strong commitment to the public good and sponsored and participated in numerous civic events and programs over her career including Food For All.
An active person, Janet was a pilot, a gardener, a marksman, and an artist of stained glass who donated her panels to local churches, signing them as Mom in honor of all mothers.
Janet belonged to the Judea Reform Congregation and is buried in their cemetery at Chapel Hill.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Judea Reform Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home following the graveside service.
Donations in Janet’s memory can be made to the Salvation Army.
