James “Possum” William Lopossay, Jr.

May 21, 1943 — May 1, 2023

Mr. James "Bill" William Lopossay, Jr., 79, of Durham, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023. He is now with his Lord and Savior.

Bill was born on May 21, 1943, in Siler City to the late William and Nettie Edith Lopossay. He married Judy Mae Forsyth on April 13, 1968, and later had four beautiful daughters together. The six of them enjoyed simple pleasures like visiting the mountains, spending time in the backyard and eating summertime fruit at their family picnic table. He enjoyed fishing, trucks, woodwork, and tinkering with lawn equipment, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He loved to entertain and could make anyone laugh; he knew no stranger and could talk for hours about his family and grandchildren.

Bill is now reunited in "Cowboy Land" with his late family along with his all-time favorite country stars, Elvis Presley and George Jones. His family is going to miss his endless signature quotes such as "hop on pop," and "makin' memories" and afternoons of sitting in the front yard and talking about the good ole times, but most importantly his contagious smile and heart full of love.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wade Lopossay and Harold Lopossay, and sisters, Darlene Riddle and Rachel Andrews.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Forsyth Lopossay; daughters, Sherry Mann (Darin), Melissa Lopossay, Monica Lopossay Warner (Derek), and Felicia Broschinski (Karl); brother, Paul Lopossay; sisters, Betty Wilson and Geraldine Stone; along with twelve grandchildren, Joshua Shipman Jr., Morgan Mann, Jordan Shipman, Emma Mann, Demily Broschinski, Mia Steed, Noah Shipman, Peyton Woods, Alma Warner, Ella Broschinski, Baxter Warner, and Aubrey Broschinski.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home.
