James A. Moore, Sr., 90, of Roxboro, North Carolina peacefully passed away at home with his wife by his side. He was born May 4, 1935 in Nashville, North Carolina to the late Jack and Bessie Moore.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughters, Ellen Groves, Ginger Moore, Cindy Toms and Patricia Moore; step-son, Larry Fortner; sisters, Mina, Peggy, Mary and Ruth and his brother, Joseph.
Mr. Moore grew up a hard-working young man, and this transitioned into his adulthood where he was a great provider to his family. He was the cook for Steak & Eggs for over 55 years until he retired. James then went on to work as the Manager of Y & J Furniture for over 20 years until he retired at the age of 86. During all those years he held many part-time jobs from Taxicab Driving to making caskets for Mastercraft Casket Company.
With the many hours of work he put in, he found enjoyment in lake fishing or pier fishing. Most of all he loved being around his family, looking forward to the grandkids coming over.
James was very talented with his hands, building solid pieces of furniture and could fix just about anything. He was known to help anyone that needed something fixed around the house.
Mr. Moore was a devout Christian and a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 30 years. Over those many years he was always known to go visit anyone who was sick or needed comfort.
James will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, proud grandfather and hard-working family man. His kind and calm demeanor will never be forgotten. Mr. Moore will be deeply missed by his family, church family and many friends.
Mr. Moore is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Diana Moore; daughters, Linda Messner (Gene), Brenda Gibbs (Jimmy),Daisy Moore and Terry McGuire (John); sons, James Moore (Sharon), Robert Moore (Cindy), David Moore (Cindy) and Carlton Moore; step-sons, Billy Fortner, Donald Fortner, Mark Fortner and Junior Blevines; over 20 grandchildren; over 25 great-grandchildren; over 10 great-great[1]grandchildren; several great-great-great-grandchildren and numerous other loving family members.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Pastor Randy Youmans will officiate.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Mark Fortner, Andy Perrigo, Danny Mayton, James Moore, Jr., Robert Moore, Frankie Coleman and Jesse Cook.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Moore’s memory to Liberty Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 3864 Guess Rd., Durham, NC 27705
