On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Hilda Evans Stegall, 92, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. She was born December 6, 1931, in Wayne County and was the sixth one of twelve children. Hilda was the daughter of Walter Ray and Pearl Atkins Wade.
Throughout her life Hilda remained a devout Christian. She taught Sunday School for many years and helped out with the bus route. Hilda kept the children while the parents went on the bus Route visiting. She was there for whatever her church family needed. Mrs. Stegall loved you all. She was the best Mama and was always there for us. Her main goal in life was to point us to Jesus. We were blessed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Stegall, brothers James, Harry, Hiram and Milton and her sisters Frances and Louise.
Hilda had 4 children, Dwight (Nancy) Evans, Kathy (Craig Gentry), Larry Evans, George (Lisa) Evans; Grandchildren: Michel (Becky) Evans, Jesse (Erica) Evans, Whitney (Brian) Ayers, Kaleb Page, Larry Evans, Jr., Isaac Evans (Matt Wickwar), Jacob Evans and Jackson Evans and 9 Beautiful Great Grand babies that she loved dearly. She is also survived by brothers, Donald Wade (Josie) and Carlton Wade and sisters, Myrtie Barbee, Peggy Whitfield and Betty Jane Wade.
A funeral will be held at Liberty Baptist Church at 3864 Guess Road in Durham Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior beginning 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens on Cheek Road in Durham.
Officiating will be Brother Randy Youmans. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Stegall’s Grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Liberty Hospice at 3414 N Duke St #201, Durham, NC 27704
