Henry Steve Vaughn, age 77, of Rougemont, North Carolina, passed away on December 31, 2025.
Born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, Steve graduated from Northern High School. He retired from Duke Power after 35 years of dedicated service, beginning as a lineman and advancing into supervision. Steve was a devoted husband to his wife, Ann Fowler Vaughn, for 51 years, and a loving father, papa, brother, and family man.
Steve was a faithful member of Gorman Baptist Church, where he served as a youth leader, deacon, Sunday school teacher and director, and in the nursery ministry. He will be remembered not only for his commitment to faith and family but also for his dependability, honesty, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a man who could fix anything and was honest to a fault.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Fowler Vaughn; his daughters, Stephanie Smith and her husband Jason Smith, and Sherri Womble; his son, Joe Womble; his grandchildren, Maddux Smith, Emerson Smith, and Sinclair Smith; his brother, Hardy Vaughn (Betty); his sisters, Rebecca Daniels (Larry - deceased), Sheree Wheeler (Tim), Teresa Vaughn, and Renee Wright (Todd); his brothers-in-law, Curtis Fowler (Joyce), Tim Fowler (Rosemary), and Gary Fowler (Sonya); and his sisters-in-law, Jackie Williams (Gerry - deceased), and Becky Wheeler - deceased (Ed). He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins along with their families.
Steve is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, his church family, and all who knew him. He lived a life of service, integrity, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2026, from 5 pm to 7pm at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 8, 2026 at 2 pm at Gorman Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Craig Phelps and Reverend Dan Tilley.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Maddux Smith, Adam Daniels, David Hawkins, Aaron Wheeler, Caleb Wheeler, and Walker Wright.
Honorary pallbearers are Howard Adcock, Julius Goss, Jerry Jones, Ronnie Thompson and Buster Wall.
