Helen Joyce Ingram Yarborough

Helen Joyce Ingram Yarborough, 89, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on August 27, 2026.

Born October 12, 1936, in Wayne County, North Carolina, Joyce was the daughter of the late Eulous Shuba “Dick” Ingram and Mildred Beatrice Phillips Ingram.

Joyce married the love of her life, Elbert “Al” Yarborough, on November 22, 1955. For more than 62 years, they shared a devoted marriage and built a wonderful life together. Al preceded her in death on February 16, 2018.

Joyce worked as a cosmetologist at Forest Hills Beauty Shop, where she enjoyed connecting with and caring for others. Joyce and Al were longtime members of Croasdaile Country Club and Cresset Baptist Church, where they enjoyed many years of friendship, fellowship, and community.

Above all, Joyce treasured her family. She found great joy in family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, weddings, and watching her family grow through the generations. The handwritten memories she left behind, recording her courtship with Al, their marriage, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, and the milestones they celebrated, beautifully reflect what mattered most to her.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Anne Y. Baber and husband Doug, of Bahama; her son, Jim Yarborough and wife Lisa, of Durham; her grandchildren, Chris Baber and wife Tabatha, James Yarborough Jr., and Kathryn Yarborough; and her great grandchild, Taylor Baber.

She is also survived by her sisters in law, Betsy Yarbrough, Helen Maddox, and Belle Jones, along with loving extended family members and friends.

Joyce will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, and a life filled with treasured relationships and memories.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 3888 Hwy 70 West, Princeton, NC 27569. The Reverend Jerry L. Wicker will officiate.
