DURHAM- Mrs. Helen Louise Long Blake, 101, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Mrs. Blake was born on November 7, 1918 to Walter and Portia Long in Durham, NC. Helen worked at Duke University Hospital in the Anesthesia Department for 20 years. She was the oldest member of Liberty Baptist Church and was loved by her church family. She also taught Sunday school at Edgemont Free Will Baptist Church. Helen loved flowers and growing them in her garden. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Portia Long; her husband, Richard L. Blake; son-in-law, William Donald Bivins, Jr.; and her sister, Hazel Mcknight.
Mrs. Blake is survived by her daughter Linda B. Bivins; grandchildren, Rick Bivins (Linda) of Hillsborough, NC, and Jana Carter (Dr. Roy) of Pleasant Garden, NC; great-grandchildren, Casey Fowler (Jonathan) of Statham, GA, and Blake Carter of Pleasant Garden, NC; and great-great-grandchildren, Rylan Fowler, and Tatum Fowler.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Dr. Roy L. Carter. Pallbearers will be Rick Bivins, Blake Carter, Jana Carter, and Johnny Byrd.
Hudson Funeral Home will offer the public an opportunity to stop by and view or sign the register book during normal business hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
