Emma Jean Marlowe

Emma Jean Crabtree Marlowe, of Durham, North Carolina was gracefully released into the arms of Jesus by her family at The Carolina Reserve on June 8th 2023. A beautiful, gracious loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt.  She will be missed every moment of every day by those who loved her.

Jean was born in Durham on July 8, 1936 to the late Alvis and Beatrice Crabtree.  She retired from Nortel Networks and made many friends that she cherished.

Many summers were spent at her and John’s homes at Kerr Lake and North Myrtle Beach.  Jean was happiest by the water and enjoyed entertaining her family, pontoon boat rides, holiday celebrations with all of her family with Christmas and Thanksgiving going all out. 

Jean thoroughly loved being with her “boys” and played an active part in all aspects of their childhood. Attending their sporting events, serving as a Cub Scout leader, President of PTA, President of Friendly City Civitan Club,  and Durham Police Safety Patrol. She attended Durham Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, Phillip Crabtree and daughter in law, Camille Marlowe.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 70 years, John C. Marlowe Jr, sister, Edna Carden, and brother, Thomas Crabtree. Three adoring sons John C. Marlowe, III, Michael Marlowe (Ilknur), Douglas Marlowe (Mary). Seven grandchildren, Caroline Ciampa (Bobby), Will Marlowe (Emma), Madison Marlowe (John), Michael Marlowe (Rachel), Jimmer Yuce (Tugba), Deniz Yuce, Nikolas Marlowe. Three great grandchildren, Ava and Richmond Ciampa and Dillon Marlowe; sisters-in-law, June Wigginton and Annette Brauchler.

The family would like to send their sincere appreciation to Janay Dixon and Jada Martin at Carolina Reserve for their love and care of our beloved mother.  

A Visitation will be held at Hudson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Hugh O'Shields. A private burial will be held.
