Eleanor H. Mims, 75, of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was born in Durham, NC on September 24, 1950 to the late Lee and Callie Henneforth.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Thomas Wayne Mims and her sisters, Nita Stanley and Janie Henneforth.

Mrs. Mims worked as a dedicated Housekeeper at the VA Hospital for over 35 years until her retirement. She was a soft and gentle woman who also was very strong and protective.

Eleanor loved being outdoors in nature enjoying the birds, butterflies and feeding the squirrels. She enjoyed being in her beautiful flower garden tending to every detail.

Mrs. Mims was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed every moment with her family from Holidays to preparing her Great Southern Cooking for everyone to gather around. Eleanor will be so deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Cindy Young (Jonathan) and Gwendolyn Mims; sister, Barbara Ware; grandchildren, Christopher Allen, James Young (Chelsie) and Taylor Young; great granddaughter, River Wynn and other loving family members and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.
