Elbert Wilford O’Neal Sr.

O’NEAL, SR.DURHAM Mr. Elbert W. O’Neal, 88, of Durham, died early Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011 at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Gull Rock, N.C. to the late Edmond T. O’Neal and Mattie Pugh Kennison. He had lived in Durham since 1948. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. and retired from Mead Containers in 1985. He loved the Outer Banks and fishing.He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Vivian Berry O’Neal and son, Elbert W. O’Neal Jr.He is survived by a son, Mark O’Neal of Durham; daughter, Pamela Hill and husband, Don of Concord. He is also survived by an extended family, Pam and Phil Sparks and Matthew and Bryan Dillehay.A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Lonnie Bell. The family will receive friends at the home of his son. Flowers are acceptable.
