Douglas Caswell Richards

Mr. Douglas Caswell Richards, 84, of Durham, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Duke University Hospital. He was born to the late Thomas Caswell and Lizzie Underwood Richards on March 13, 1942. A lifelong member of the Baptist faith, he later participated and served with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

For years, Mr. Richards worked at Golden Belk as a Rule/Dye maker before retiring in 2004. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, and anything related to woodworking. He could build just about anything!

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Linda Richards; daughter, Patricia Gail Richards; brother, Bobby Richards; sisters, Lucy Herndon, Kathryn Barron, and Jackie Weatherspoon.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Obranovich (Richard); grandchildren, Megan Obranovich and Nicholas Richards; and great-granddaughter, Leona Richards.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, an organization that was near and dear to Doug.
