Douglas Clay Long, 67, of Creedmoor, passed away May 23, 2026, at Duke University Hospital. Mr. Long was born in Durham County on October 9, 1958, to the late Earl Clay and Barbara Castleberry Long.
Mr. Long is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Krista Lee Long; son, Shayne D. Long and wife Gabrille of Atlantic Beach, NC; daughter, Whitney Long McClure and husband Mike of Creedmoor; brother, Dennis Long and wife, Angie; sisters, Tammy Freemen and husband, Todd and Paula Sumpter and husband Ray; grandchildren, Jaxson, Lukas, Branden, Brayden and Autumn.
Doug Long powered homes across North Carolina for three decades as a Lineman and later Engineer with Duke Energy. He found great joy in coaching young men in football and wrestling in Granville County schools and enjoyed helping them develop as athletes as well as people. He was a wonderful source of strength and faith for his family, and provided countless memories of humor, fierceness, and love. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart. Doug enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. His love of racing motorcycles even led to meeting his wife of many years, Krista. His love of reading and fantasy stories has rippled through generations of his family. He fondly remembered his days working with his parents, Earl and Barbara Long at the “Little Rebel” gas station. He is remembered as a man of God, as his faith provided a well of strength he drew from for his family even as he experienced illness in his later years. His spirit will live on & it was an honor to be in his presence.
We love you.
