Donald Wayne (Don) Baker

Mr. Donald Wayne “Don” Baker, 86, of Durham, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion.

Mr. Baker  was born January 13, 1937, in Durham  County, NC to the late Otha Ray Baker and Katie Champion Baker.

In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his wife Nancy O’Neal Baker, and a sister, Shirley Baker Pennell.

He is survived by a son, Greg Baker (Kimberly Cook) of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Christie Baker Evans of Mebane, NC; grandchildren, Bradley Baker, Samantha Harris, Sydney Harris, Alexander Evans.

Don retired from the Federal Paper Board as plant manager after many years of service. He was a member of Page Road Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He served 20 years with Durham Citizens Safety Committee. This program allowed select elementary students to be escorted by US Park Police to Washington, DC.

Don enjoyed leather crafting, wood working, horses, his pets, vintage automobiles, “Committee meetings” at Bojangles and spending time at Kerr lake with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 28, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Page Road Baptist Church.

Officiating will be Reverend Michael Bond.
