Mrs. Gibbs was born on July 30, 1952, to the late Lawrence and Lorena Thornton Hyde in Durham, NC.  She lived most of her life in Durham, but also lived in Scranton and Engelhard, NC.  Deborah attended school at Durham High School and Mattamusket High School.  She went on to get her Paralegal Degree at Durham Technical Institute.  She worked at Faison and Fletcher for a short while. Deborah always pushed forward and persevered.  She loved camping, visiting Hyde County, and spending time with family. Her most prized position was her grandchildren and children.  She spent all of her life caring and doing for others.  Deborah loved her family.  She will be remembered as being a strong woman, determined, loving, and always giving.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Curley B. Gibbs, Jr., a brother, Lawrence A. Hyde and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Minor and Gail Strombeck.

Deborah is survived by her husband of 52 years, Curley Gibbs; a son, Avery Minor Helmich-Gibbs and two daughters, Lena G. Lynn (Michael) and Ava Minor Gibbs: three grandchildren, Bryson Bradshaw Lynn, Gabriel Michael Lynn, Andrew Alton Lynn and a sister, Teresa Morris (Carl).
