Dayle Tyler

Aug 6, 1985 — Oct 31, 2026

Born at home on August 6, 1985, in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, Dayle Tyler passed away on October 31, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina, surrounded by loved ones.

Dayle was a woman who was truly one of a kind. A loud introvert who never met a stranger, she had a way of making people feel welcome, loved, and immediately part of her world.

She was kind, loving, generous, and wonderfully sarcastic. She had a gift for finding humor in almost any situation and making light of the moments when life felt a little too heavy. Her quick wit, big personality, and even bigger heart left an impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.

Dayle found comfort in the simple things: a favorite pair of Vans or new kicks, a cozy hoodie, statement earrings, and a warm drink. She loved books to read and especially loved books; her favorite genres were science fiction and fantasy. Her ever-growing TBR (to- be-read) list was legendary, and books could be found tucked in to every crack and crevice of her home. There was always room for just one more book and probably another book store trip.

Above all, Dayle’s world revolved around the people and animals she loved. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 15 years, Bo, and an incredibly involved, fiercely devoted mother to their daughter, Salene. Dayle was completely enamored with her daughter and took immense pride in watching her grow into her own person. She loved Salene’ s bold, independent spirit, admired it endlessly, and might have even been a little envious of the confidence with which her daughter carried herself. Being Salene’s mom was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Her love extended to her four-legged family, too. She was a proud dog mom to Thor and Bel le, her beautiful white huskies.

Having been raised around over-the-road truckers and marrying into that life, Dayle took great pride in her ability to travel long distances with remarkably few bathroom breaks. It was one of those uniquely Dayle talents that deserves to be remembered with a smile.

She was also a cherished “Auntie Dayle” to many nieces and nephews, a title she took seriously. Her love was generous, her humor unforgettable, and her presence impossible to replace.

Dayle will be remembered for loving without hesitation, laughing without holding back, finding humor in life’s hardest moments, and making room in her heart for just about everyone. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless laughs, and a whole lot of books that someone will inevitably have to figure out what to do with.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Batts; maternal grandparents, William Devlin and Maryjane Devlin; and paternal grandparents, Ralph Batts and Gladys Batts.

She is survived by her husband, Bo Tyler, and their daughter, Salene; her mother, Denise Batts; her siblings, Danielle and her husband, Tom Gulley; Derrick Batts; Daniel and his wife, Keaton Batts; Devin and his wife, Katlyn Batts; and Dakota Houk. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews: Cooper Batts, Kamdan Batts, Shiloh Batts, Jace Gulley, Sawyer Houk, Fallon Batts, Gunner Batts, Eden Houk, Emma Houk, and Walker Batts, and dozens of friends who adored her.

The family would like to extend their heart felt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and entire staff at Duke University Hospital for their compassionate care.

At the family’s request, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made in Dayle’s memory to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, or another literacy organization to help share the gift of reading and inspire a love of books in future generations.
