David William Hanson, 76, of Durham, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 18, 2025. Dave was born in LaPorte County, Indiana on December 16,1948 to the late Mabel Hale Hanson & Fred William Hanson. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Hanson, Sr. and sister, Kathleen Wise.
Dave proudly served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and earned three bronze stars for his duty in Vietnam. As the owner of DWH Painting in Durham for over 30 years, Dave built strong relationships with many businesses and organizations in the Durham area.
Dave was an avid car enthusiast and car collector. He was a very caring man with a great sense of humor. He was always lending a hand to help someone who was in need and always tried to see the good in people. He woke up each morning with a positive attitude for the day ahead.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his nephews, Patrick Hanson and Howard Hanson, Jr.; and niece Shannon; best friend, Ted Timmerman (Jennifer); special friend Jairo Amaya (Susana); his fur baby, Brodie and numerous other close friends.
A public Memorial Service will be held in the Hudson Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The family will be available for visitation following the service. Officiating will be Reverend Hugh O’Shields.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Duke Children’s Hospital.
