Durham

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine “Chris” Harris Martin, age 57, who left us too soon on July 3, 2026. Born on August 13, 1968, in Durham, NC, Chris brought immeasurable light and joy to all those around her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years Shawn Martin, and loving daughter Savannah Grace Martin, both of Durham. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Judith Jan Pearce Harris.

Chris was employed by SAS Institute for 28 years, where she built a successful and rewarding career. She cherished traveling with her family, especially to the North Carolina mountains and the coast, creating many treasured memories together. Chris was an avid fan of country music and especially enjoyed attending concerts featuring Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Luke Bryan. She was a devoted Duke Basketball fan and was able to attend a Duke vs. UNC game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the television sitcom Friends, a show that always brought her joy and laughter.

Chris leaves behind a legacy of pure happiness for those close to her. She had an infectious smile and optimism that was unmatched. She will be forever missed and deeply loved by the countless friends and family who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of Chris’s vibrant life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Faith Harvest Church, 4737 Willeva Drive, Wake Forest, NC 27587. We ask that attendees wear bright colors to honor the joy she brought to our lives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Transitions LifeCare, or the American Cancer Society.
