William Thomas “Tommy” Lemons, 78, of Durham, NC passed away at Wake Medical Hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born on February 7, 1944 in Durham, NC at Watts Hospital to the late Lehman William and Essie Thompson Lemons.
Mr. Lemons was a beloved man who proudly served his community for many years. He earned his Associates Degree from Durham Technical Community College in Fire Science. Tommy retired as a Captain from the Durham Fire Department in 1993. He is the former owner and operator of Lemons’ Brothers Service and Lemons’ Brothers Body Shop. Mr. Lemons also worked part time at National Coatings.
Mr. Lemons was very active in his community, where he belonged to the Bull City Street Rod Club, Redwood Ruritan Club, Masonic Knap of Reeds Lodge 158 in Bahama, and the Sudan Shriners and Wrecking Crew. Tommy was a longtime and faithful member at Fletchers Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Lemons was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Phillip Lemons. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Cordelia “Dee” Lemons; sons, Jason Lemons (Sarah) and Brandon Lemons (April); daughters, Amber Lemons Guthrie and Kristy Daniel (Eric); brother, Louis Lemons (Mary); sisters, Delores Parrish McFarland (Jimmy) and Sue Shaw (Cecil); grandchildren, Jacob Lemons, Elijah Lemons, Levi Lemons, Hayden Lemons, Silas Lemons, Kember Guthrie, Brooklyn Guthrie and David Guthrie and numerous nieces and nephews he so dearly loved.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church,1919 Fletcher’s Chapel Rd, Durham, NC. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Clarence “Bubba” Parrish. Burial will follow at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
